This definitive, classic work by Howard Massey is the most in-demand book on the Yamaha DX7. You're very lucky to have found a copy in immaculate condition!! The covers and spine are in excellent shape. No torn or marred pages. No highlighting or underlining of any kind. Even the three (3) included vinyl sound sheets are still attached and have never been played (see photos)! Seriously, this is in amazing condition.

The Yamaha DX7, and FM synthesis in general, are renowned for their daunting learning curve in getting past the presets and actually designing sounds from scratch. This book assumes no special knowledge, and walks the reader step by step through navigating the DX7 interface and programming sounds from the ground up. Ive wanted to get my head around FM synthesis for years, and while its still an area that takes lots of study and experimentation to master, this book is what really got FM to click for me.

Given that this book is out of print and so difficult to find, especially with the resurgence of FM by way of software synthesis over the past several years, this rare, nearly-immaculate copy of Massey's definitive vendu work is a great find!

The only flaw is on the inside front matter, where an embossed “from the library of” stamp is pressed onto the inside title pages (see photos for the exact book you will be receiving). Even so, you'd have to be looking for it to find it!

Book looks new but has been read. Softcover has no visible wear. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, and no underlining/highlighting of text or writing in the margins. Very minimal wear and tear. Comb binding is in like new condition.

Biography

Howard Massey is a music journalist, musician, and recording engineer/producer who was formerly an editor at Musician and Performing Songwriter magazines. He is also the author of sixteen books, including "The Great British Recording Studios" and two collections of interviews entitled "Behind The Glass" and "Behind The Glass Volume II." In 2016, his first novel, "Roadie," was published to critical acclaim.
