Catalogue Raisonne of this important French sculptor long out of print and rare to come by.François Pompon was 67 years old when he suddenly came out of the shadows with his monumental White Bear, exhibited at the Salon dAutomne in 1922. After spending his life working for other sculptors, including Auguste Rodin, he finally established himself with his timeless and living vision of the animal. If the Bear has become, a hundred years after its creation, an icon of modern sculpture, the whole of Pompons work, just as innovative, is still relatively unknown.
